Breast Enlargement (Breast Augmentation)

Breast enlargement (often called breast implants or a “boob job”) is a procedure to increase breast size, shape and fullness using implants. It may be chosen by women who have naturally small breasts, have lost volume after pregnancy or weight loss, or who wish to improve breast symmetry and shape.

In some cases, breast implants may be combined with a breast uplift (mastopexy) to restore a more youthful position and contour. Your surgeon will advise on the most appropriate approach during consultation.

The Procedure

Incision location

Breast implants are inserted through a small incision in the fold beneath the breast (inframammary fold).

Implant placement

The implant may be placed either behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle, depending on your natural breast volume and anatomy.

Typical duration

The operation usually takes around 90 minutes.

Drains

In most cases, no surgical drains are required.

Antibiotics + supportive bra

Antibiotics are given to reduce the risk of infection, and a supportive sports bra is worn after surgery.
